Haiti

“Seeds of Change in Arkansas & Appalachia” which will include sheep as will as gardening projects will be the in-country Heifer International project for the 2012 Festival of Sharing. The international project, “Pigs for Hope and Health in Haiti” will feature, pigs for families in Haiti. Carol Oliver, our Heifer International staff person at the Office of Creative Ministries, tells about these two exciting projects in this MissionCast. The 2012 Festival of Sharing will be held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 20th. For 30 years people of faith have gathered at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri to ease the plight of the poor and hungry and to seek ways to eliminate hunger all together.  Planning for the next Festival of Sharing always begins with the conclusion of the annual event.  We are grateful to Terri Williams, from Office of Creative Ministries, in Columbia, for prayerfully guiding the planning throughout the year.  Each year we celebrate what is new.  New this year was the full integration of the youth into the morning worship service and the unveiling of the brand new Festival of Sharing logos.

Gardening

Through Heifer International, each year the Festival of Sharing features an international project and a project in the United States.  This year’s US project is a gardening project designed to enable people in poverty to grow some of their own food and even be able to sell some for added income.  It is a program designed to build self-reliance.  It is a hand up rather than a hand out.  For more information contact Carol Oliver at the Festival of Sharing office at 573-474-3332 or email her at oliver@umocm.com

The Ludhiana Christian Medical College and Hospital is a new Festival of Sharing project.  In this MissionCast, Rev. Laura Taylor, from Concord Trinity United Methodist Church, tells about the wonderful healing ministry through the College of Nursing.  Laura visited Ludhiana in March along with four other Missouri Conference Mission Ambassadors.

The Festival of Sharing Coordinating Committee chose this ministry for support for the next three years.  You may designate a part of your Festival of Sharing offering for this ministry.  Information about the ministry may be found on page 21 of the Festival of Sharing booklet which is available from the Festival of Sharing office.  (573-474-3332)  Information, pictures, articles and other videos may be found by going to www.ludhianamissouri.org.
