pigs

Last Christmas Rich gave Carol an alternative Christmas gift.  It was a pig purchased through Heifer International.  That pig has given Carol (and Rich) joy the whole year.  The pig has made it possible for an impoverished family somewhere in the world to improve their life by providing them with extra income to do things like send their children to school, improve their home and provide them with a better diet.  AND this impoverished family was able to become a significant “giver” when it passed on the gift by giving the first offspring from their pig to another impoverished family. “Passing on the gift” is an important part of the Heifer International program. Can you guess what Rich is going to give Carol for Christmas this year?  Perhaps not another pig but maybe a flock of chicken…sheep…goats…bees…or maybe even a water buffalo or camel.  For more information call the Office of Creative Ministries and talk to Carol Oliver.  Phone 573-474-7155  Email:  oliver@umocm.com

We are grateful to the See family for inviting us into their home to learn about the need that many people have for organ donation.  Mike See has been on dialysis for a year now because of his kidney disease.  The dialysis takes 4 hours, 5 nights a week after both Mike and Joni have spent a full day at work.  The Missouri United Methodist congregation, in Columbia, was made aware of the need for a kidney donation and 5 members have stepped forward to offer one of their kidneys.  This MissionCast will be used as part of the sermon at Missouri UMC on National Organ Donor Sunday (2nd Sunday of November each year) and we offer it to your congregation to use on this special Sunday or on another Sunday that works for you.

festival

For 30 years people of faith have gathered at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri to ease the plight of the poor and hungry and to seek ways to eliminate hunger all together.  Planning for the next Festival of Sharing always begins with the conclusion of the annual event.  We are grateful to Terri Williams, from Office of Creative Ministries, in Columbia, for prayerfully guiding the planning throughout the year.  Each year we celebrate what is new.  New this year was the full integration of the youth into the morning worship service and the unveiling of the brand new Festival of Sharing logos.

For information about participating in the 2012 Festival of Sharing contact Festival of Sharing Coordinator, Terri Williams, at 573-474-7155.
