276. College Age Ministries – Pure Water for Haiti

Haiti

Meet Kristen Thackery, one of 8 college age young people who recently traveled to Haiti and installed pure drinking water filters in 40 homes. The young people on the team came from congregations from across that state. Kristen tells of their experience in this MissionCast. Kristen is a sophomore at the University of Missouri and is a member of Missouri United Methodist Church.

Your congregation can provide pure drinking water in Haiti, too. Contact the Office of Creative Ministries. Email: Thackery@umocm.com Phone: 573-474-7155

Haiti

Members of New Horizons United Methodist Church were a part of the 2011 Missouri Conference Heifer International tour, led by Roger Jespersen, to Perryville and Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock is the international headquarters for Heifer International and Perryville is the location of the Heifer International educational ranch.

We are grateful to members from New Horizons for sharing their experience in this MissionCast. Adults as well as youth have a great experience at the ranch. Often youth stay in the global village where typical homes from various countries have been built. All of the homes are modest; some of them are urban slum dwellings; others are dwellings of the rural very poor. It is an experience that youth always remember. For more information about arranging for a tour for adults from your congregation or an overnight experience for your youth call the Office of Creative Ministries at 573-474-7155. In formation is also available at the Heifer International website at http://heifer.org

205. MissionCast – Country Festival Store – Midway-Locust Grove UMC

country storeMidway-Locust Grove UMC does the Festival of Sharing up right by getting every member and age group in the congregation involved.  In this MissionCast Marjorie McFann tells about their annual Country Festival Store.  Other congregations organize the making of a different kind of Festival of Sharing kit each month.  Many churches go out and purchase the materials for the kits in bulk and have them available on Sunday morning for church members to purchase.  That is how Midway-Locust Grove UMC organizes their Country Store.

For ideas and information call Midway-Locust Grove UMC at 573-445-4667.  It is not too early to start planning for your Festival of Sharing participation.  Information about the Festival of Sharing may be found on the Office of Creative Ministries website at http://umocm.com

199. MissionCast – 134 Baptisms in Ghana – Living Word UMC

Little Bethlehem

While praying and fasting, a leadership group at Living Word United Methodist Church, felt God calling for their congregation to reach further out in mission.  With more prayer and fasting they felt God calling them to reach out to Sub-Saharan Africa.  As a part of this process of discernment the Rev. Michael McIntyre was fasting and praying suddenly “Ghana” flashed in his mind.  He did not know anything about Ghana and didn’t know where in Africa it was.  The leadership team felt God was calling them to reach out to Ghana.  The congregation contacted UMCOR about helping with pure water in Ghana.  A missionary with UMCOR said they should come and listen to the people to hear from the people what their needs were.  A trip was organized which included Senior Pastor Michael McIntyre, Associate Pastor, Rev. Gregory Philip Finfrock and Director of Multimedia Ministries, Michael Logsdon.  Several videos of their trip may be found on a special website the church created to direct attention and help for Ghana from their congregation, other congregations and other organizations and individuals in their community.   Find their new website at www.helpghananow.com.

In our MissionCast Michael shares an incredible experience where they were called upon to baptize 134 persons who responded to their preaching and to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
