369. Kids & Cows – North Cross UMC – Best of MissionCast

KidDuring the July MissionCast vacation we will be posting some of the Best of MissionCast. This one comes from Marck 2008.

Wanda Jackson, produced this video, which took second place in the MissionCast video contest. The video is humorous and very well done. The kids at North Cross UMC, in North Kansas City, really wanted to make a difference and they did. To see how click on the picture at the left or one of the links below.

339. Warm Start – Asbury UMC – St. Louis

There is a warm spirit inside Asbury United Methodist Church on Sunday mornings. During the rest of the week the warm spirit moves out on the street in front of the church where a number of different school buses stop to pick up children. For three years the congregation has served a snack for the waiting kids. With juice in warm weather and hot chocolate in cold the children board their busses for school. Rain or shine, hot or cold, beginning at 5:30 am the hearts of church members and school children are warmed each weekday school morning. Pastor Ivan James explains why they do this.

295. MissionCast – UCity Micro Credit Club – University UMC, St. Louis

The UCity Micro Credit Loan Ministry of the University United Methodist Church, in St. Louis, has been making loans to small entrepreneurs around the world for three years. They have made over 150 loans in close to 50 countries. The loans vary from 25 to 100 dollars. It is a way of giving poor and struggling people hope by making them more self-reliant. The repayment rate on the loans they have made is an amazing 98%. They started by meeting in the UCity library to make the ministry more accessible to non-church members but now they generally meet on line using Skype enabling people to join in from anywhere. 283. MissionCast – Community Outreach Dinners – Unionville UMC

Haiti

Unionville UMC serves free dinners for the community every Monday evening. The outreach ministry has grown to where the fellowship hall fills up as people come, eat and go letting others come. The community fellowship around the tables is great. Dinners are even taken to the homes of those who cannot come to the church including inmates in the county jail. The ministry grew out of a group of women in the church who meet regularly for prayer and spiritual growth.

281. MissionCast – Brown Bag Ministry – Yeakley United Methodist Church

The phrase “gather for worship, scatter for mission” describes what the Yeakley United Methodist Church does so very well. They are an outward focused congregation. Their latest outreach ministry is with the homeless of Springfield which they call their “brown bag ministry.” Your MissionCast crew walked along with them in downtown Springfield to bring you this MissionCast. Because of their outward focus the congregation has grown from an average attendance of around 19 two years ago to an average attendance of 39 so far this year. Pastor David Schoolcraft attributes the growth in attendance to the commitment and excitement brought on by engaging in ministry beyond the walls of their open air country church.
