318. MissionCast – Southeast Churches Respond

Haiti

Five southeast district congregations (Glen Allen UMC, Broadway UMC, St. Paul UMC, New McKendree UMC and LaCroix UMC) came together to meet a human need in their area. After staying indoors for two months following his second leg being amputated due to a debilitating disease (RSD) the congregations built him a wheel chair ramp for his trailer. Pastor Kim Mitchell called the district office to see what could be done to help. After they put her in touch with Rev. Charles Buck and they put their heads together things began to happen quickly.

308. MissionCast – Mt. Vernon UMC and Potato Drops

Haiti

The Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church sponsors three or four Society of St. Andrew potato drops at their church each year to help feed the hungry in their community. To raise money for the transportation costs of the potatoes they have various fund raisers like the potato soup supper shown in this MissionCast. Joe Bartelsmeyer, retired from the Office of Creative Ministries staff, started the potato drop ministry in Missouri and is a member of the Mt. Vernon UMC. You can contact Joe through the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church by calling 417-466-2459.

305. MissionCast – Missouri United Methodists Help Sandy Survivors

Haiti

Soon after Hurricane Sandy trounced the East Coast, Kevin Fisher, Jim Gleason and Jack Davidson from Liberty United Methodist Church and Joe Bartelsmeyer from Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church headed to Middletown, New Jersey. They took along one of the Office of Creative Ministries skid loaders. They worked on several homes but spent three days helping Ruth. She was happy to speak to Jim’s camera/phone. And MissionCast is happy to bring you her story.

301. 2nd Saturday SERVE – Community UMC

Haiti

Community United Methodist Church which has participated in SERVE 2011 and SERVE 2012 decided not to wait until SERVE 2013. They decided to SERVE on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Your MissionCast crew found them busy serving on Saturday and followed them around their community. The volunteers serve in projects that are completed by noon.
