162. MissionCast – Dental Clinic – Court Street UMC

Court Street United Methodist Church, in Fulton, Missouri offers free dental screening to their community every year.Â The information is distributed in area schools by school nurses.Â Volunteer dentists come to the church and offer their services.Â This outreach ministry is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.Â

141. MissionCast – Backpack Snacks – Grace UMC, Sullivan, Missouri

Second grade teacher, Michelle Rhoads,Â is interviewed in this MissionCast video as she tells about the importance of the backpack snacks outreach program of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Many school-aged children get breakfast and lunch at school during the school year.Â About half of Sullivan, Missouriâ€™s school children qualify for free or reduced lunches. Over the weekends, however, many children do not have access to food.Â The Grace United Methodist Congregation is filling this gap by providing â€œbackpack snacks.â€Â The backpacks contain healthy, nutritious snacks for these children to take home each weekend. Items in the backpacks include things like shelf-stable milk, pasta bowls, fruit juice, applesauce, peanut butter, mac and cheese, and granola bars.

We are so very appreciative of the Grace media team and their pastor Steve Williams for making this video and giving us permission to use it for a MissionCast.

138. MissionCast – Festival of Sharing

The Festival of Sharing is all about people like Beatrice pictured to the right.Â You could have heard a pin drop from where I was taping while Beatrice, now grown, told the 400 youth present at the Festival of Sharing Youthfest, about her life.Â Twenty minutes of thoughful questions followed.Â Beatrice lives in Uganda, Africa.Â Her family could not afford to send the children to school.Â It all changed when the family received the gift of a Heifer International goat.Â With the income from that one goat Beatrice and her brothers and sisters were able to attend school.Â She is not doing graduate studies in the United States.
The Festival of Sharing is all about making a difference in the lives of people in need here in Missouri, across our country and around the world.Â It is an amazing spirit filled event which involves thousands of people making gifts for the poor through the year and bringing them to the Sedalia or one of the many Festival of Sharing sites around the state.Â And it involves hundreds of volunteers on the actual days when each event is held.Â This MissionCast shows a little of what happened in Sedalia.Â Mark Saturday, October 16, 2010, on your calandar to attend again next year.

126. School of Christian Mission

The Cooperative School of Christian Mission is sponsored each year by the Missouri Conference United Methodist Women and the Missouri Conference Creative Ministries Team.Â Nancy Mountain, a member of the Creative Ministries Team, serves as the dean of the school.Â The Mission Education focus this year was in three areas:Â 1.Â Sudan, 2.Â Native American Survival and 3.Â Food and Faith.Â The 2009 school drew a diverse group of students from all ages.Â This MissionCast gives some of the highlights of the school.Â Make plans now for attending the Cooperative School of Christian Mission next year during the last weekend of July.Â For more information go to the Missouri Conference website.Â (www.moumethodist.org)

A much longer video (DVD) will be produced and will show much more of the school and the school activities of adults, youth and children. 116. Kid’s Place – University United Methodist Church

MissionCast #116 is about Kid’s Place, a remarkable community outreach ministry developed by Brenda Stobbe, Program Director at University United Methodist Church, in St. Louis.Â The program now in its 10th year has grown and matured into the kind of program that is making a real difference in the community that surrounds the church.Â Kid’s Place Coordinator, Terry Chi, says that the two main focuses of the ministry are teaching literacy and civic and social responsibility.Â Four days a week volunteers and staff meeting the kids at the nearby grade school, supervise some play time at the school and then walk them to the church for refreshments, a science project, a hearty meal and then an hour for homework and tutoring.Â To learn more about the program you may calll University United Methodist Church and speak to Brenda Stobbe at (314) 863-8055.
