Prison

One of the five elements of the vision of the United Methodist Church in Mozambique is to be a church that is self-sustainable. This is one of the goals – even in areas where people have very little currency – the congregation, as a community, is able to work together toward self-sufficiency.  Congregations in Mozambique are living out the purpose of the church which is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.  Sustainability projects are helping to strengthen those congregations.

You can help by contributing to the fund supporting sustainability projects.  Make checks payable to Missouri Conference marked 8800 Mozambique sustainability projects.

Prison

SERVE 2011 gave interested persons an opportunity to visit the prison in Cameron and learn how their congregation might become more involved in prison ministry.  The group met at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit.  Senior Pastor Brent Mustoe was one of the persons who accompanied the group.  The prison tour was organized by Rev. Gardening

Through Heifer International, each year the Festival of Sharing features an international project and a project in the United States.  This year’s US project is a gardening project designed to enable people in poverty to grow some of their own food and even be able to sell some for added income.  It is a program designed to build self-reliance.  It is a hand up rather than a hand out.  For more information contact Carol Oliver at the Festival of Sharing office at 573-474-3332 or email her at oliver@umocm.com

Serve 2011 was a grand success.  This past week we have received hundreds of photos and a good number of videos.  This MissionCast is provided by the Lebanon United Methodist Church.  We want to thank Eric Adams for producing it and sending it to us.  Thanks also to Rose Childers who narrates the video.  Rose headed up their SERVE 2011 mission.
