Haiti

Members of New Horizons United Methodist Church were a part of the 2011 Missouri Conference Heifer International tour, led by Roger Jespersen, to Perryville and Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock is the international headquarters for Heifer International and Perryville is the location of the Heifer International educational ranch.

We are grateful to members from New Horizons for sharing their experience in this MissionCast. Adults as well as youth have a great experience at the ranch. Often youth stay in the global village where typical homes from various countries have been built. All of the homes are modest; some of them are urban slum dwellings; others are dwellings of the rural very poor. It is an experience that youth always remember. For more information about arranging for a tour for adults from your congregation or an overnight experience for your youth call the Office of Creative Ministries at 573-474-7155. 258. MissionCast – College Students Serving in Joplin

Haiti

College students from across the state traveled to Joplin during their Christmas break to serve.  Around 150 students from Missouri were joined by 40 from Arkansas.  They tore down houses, nailed siding, hung drywall, dug foundations and painted.

257. Circles of Transformation

This MissionCast was taped inside the prison in Cameron, Missouri.  With permission from the prison administration and the participating inmates your MissionCast crew was able to tape the hopes and dreams of inmates who were soon to be released back in their communities.  Each had participated in the “Circles of Transformation” restorative justice ministry led by Rev. Harold Johnson and Marty Rash.  This program has been a part of the ministry of the Missouri Conference Social Justice Team.  With this MissionCast we hope to peak the interest of others who will consider leading “Circles of Transformation” ministries in other prisons.  For information about receiving training for this ministry email Harold Johnson at hmjohnso@sbcglobal.net or 816-537-5696.
